Pinterest Marketing

Pinterest has taken off and is now a great place to learn skills and market your hobby, but before you set up a Pinterest account here are 8 things to take into consideration before getting started:

1. Username: Make sure you use your name (or whatever brand you’re trying to promote) as your username. This is because Pinterest uses a url like: pinterest.com/username.

2. Your Profile: Complete your profile! Make sure you complete the “about us” section and other areas (so people know who you are, and what your interests are).

3. Be consistent – as with anything, if you want to create a following you need to be consistent with your “pinning”.

4. Interact – Be sure to interact with other pinterest users and “like” other people’s pin or “re-pin” their stuff on your board.

5. Diversity – Don’t only pin stuff from your own sites (i.e. images / videos from your own blog, youtube channel etc.). Pin stuff from a variety of sites.

6. Video – this is an underutilized area of Pinterest. They actually have a tab specifically for videos as well… so start pinning video (your own how-to tutorials as well as other interesting stuff etc.).

7. Your Blog – Start using images in your blog posts. I also suggest you add your url to the bottom of your images like the infographic by Shareaholic above. (do this if you own the rights to the image).

Add pinterest images / stats on your blog. You can embed pinterest images (by clicking on the image in question, then click “embed” link to the right of the image).

You can also add a pinterest widget to your blog that will display your latest pins by using the Pinterest RSS widget.

I also just picked up a really cool pinterest plugin for wordpress that allows you to quickly add pinterest links and an “pin it” link to your blog posts.

8. Don’t SPAM! - This one should be pretty self-explanatory.

5 Simple Ideas to use Pinterest for Niche Marketing

1. Wish Lists: If you’re a niche marketer and create sites for the holiday season. one great way to generate traffic and interest is to create WISH LISTS, e.g Christmas Toys for Kids, Mother’s day ideas, Cool Halloween Costumes for this year etc.

2. Recipes: If you’re running for instance a weightloss or fitness related site, you could create a board for recipes for weightloss.

3. Events: Similar to the first one, you could create a board around events like “Sweet 16″, “Weddings” (wedding anniversaries), “Vacations to Europe”, “XYZ Seminar” etc. and pin products related to this topic.

4. How To Content: Create and pin your “How To” videos and tutorials. You could create and upload videos, create and infographics to your blog posts (or some type of a flow chart) and pin it!

5. Curation: Start using Pinterest as a content curation tool. Add videos and images from the latest news in your niche.
